What is your belief system and is it helping you?
Have you ever wondered if it's necessary to have a belief to live a meaningful and fulfilling life?
Many of us are brought up with the idea that having a belief is essential, but is it really? In this article, we'll explore what beliefs are and why they may be important for our quality of life. We'll also look at how having a belief can help us connect with others and find purpose in our lives. Finally, we'll consider how anxiety can be reduced by having a belief. By the end of this article, you should have a better understanding of what beliefs are and how they can help improve your overall quality of life.
Interestingly, when searching “belief” most responses that came up in the first few pages were that of a religious nature, in particular, atheism v religious’ believers. So, does that mean those that don’t subscribe to a religious persuasion don’t have a belief system? Or are beliefs just of religious nature? Or can a belief be something else such as a way of life, belief of a non-religious higher power or a practice? Furthermore, do we need to have proof of our belief?
Let’s take a closer look leaving behind, proof and any arguments about religion or atheism and instead look at the basic structure of a belief system and how it can help us manage life.
What is a belief and a subsequent belief system?
A belief is a mental representation of an idea or opinion held by an individual or group. It is a state of mind in which a person holds something as true, even without any evidence to support it. Beliefs can be based on personal experiences, cultural norms, religious teachings, scientific facts, and more. They can also be influenced by the opinions of others. Beliefs are important as they shape our thoughts and behaviour and give us the motivation to act in certain ways.
A belief system is a set of beliefs or ideas that guide an individual's behaviour and shape their world view. It is a set of values, attitudes, and assumptions that are accepted as true without question. It is the foundation upon which a person's actions, thoughts, and decisions are based. Belief systems can be religious, political, scientific, or social in nature and can vary greatly from one person to another. They provide an individual with a framework for understanding their place in the world and for making sense of their experiences.
Much of who we are today as humans and how we behave, think and have formed our world view is a collection of beliefs we have accumulated over our lifetime.
So, if we take the above into account, a belief is nothing but our ability to accept something as true. What about our belief in Santa as a child (ps I chose to still believe Santa is real), something doesn’t have to be real for us to believe in it. I chose to believe in the construct of Santa because that belief brings me warmth and joy during a time where emotions of all sorts are at their highest or lowest for some and what’s wrong with wearing a large warm smile carrying a belief that magic might happen?
Whether something is real or not, we have the power and ability to believe in anything we want. As mentioned, when talking about Santa, we just have to accept the idea as being true.
What are the benefits to having or installing a belief system?
Having a belief system can be beneficial in many ways. It can provide a sense of purpose and direction in life, as well as offer guidance on how to make decisions and live a meaningful life. Having a belief system also helps us to cope with difficult situations and provides us with hope and optimism during times of adversity. Furthermore, having a belief system can help us to feel connected to something greater than ourselves, which can give us strength when we are feeling weak or vulnerable. Ultimately, having a belief system can bring us closer to our true selves and help us find inner peace and harmony.
Our beliefs have a significant impact on our lives. They shape our thoughts, our actions, and ultimately our outcomes. Positive beliefs can help us to achieve success in life, while negative beliefs can hold us back from reaching our goals.
Positive beliefs are those that empower us to take risks, face challenges and push ourselves towards achieving greater heights. On the other hand, negative beliefs limit us by making us feel inadequate or unworthy of success.
It is important to recognize the power of positive and negative beliefs to make sure that we are taking the right steps towards creating a life that is full of joy and fulfillment. By understanding how these two types of beliefs affect our lives, we can make sure that we are living up to our fullest potential.
Can life be lived without a belief system?
Belief systems are an integral part of our lives. They provide us with a sense of purpose and direction and help us make decisions in difficult situations. But is it possible to live without a belief system? Can someone survive without having any beliefs or values?
This question has been debated by philosophers for centuries and there is no one definitive answer. Some believe that living without a belief system can lead to a lack of direction and meaning in life, while others argue that it can lead to greater freedom and creativity. Ultimately, the decision is up to the individual as to whether they choose to have a set of beliefs or not.
Furthermore, whilst the vast majority don’t question their belief system, for others they may question the validity of their belief system.
It is natural to have doubts about the validity of your beliefs and values. We all have different perspectives and experiences that shape our beliefs, so it is important to assess whether they are right or wrong if we feel the beliefs, we are holding are not serving us favourably in our thoughts and behaviours which can also lead to anxiety. But how do you know if your belief system is right. The real question one should ask of themselves, “is the belief system I have working for me and providing opportunity for growth and behaving authentically”. The use of critical thinking, research, and self-reflection as tools to evaluate your beliefs are beneficial in ascertaining if your belief system is right for you. Additionally, make sure that you are not being influenced by external forces such as media or culture when forming your beliefs. By understanding doing a self-evaluation and check in, you can be sure that you are making informed decisions about what you believe in and why.
So, the real question is not is my belief system right or wrong, more is my belief system working for me and is it having a positive or negative impact on our lives and if they are negative, can they be replaced with more positive ones.

Can belief systems be changed?
As previously mentioned, Belief systems are an integral part of our lives. They shape how we think, feel and act. But can they be changed or reprogrammed? This is a question that many people have asked and there is no easy answer to it.
The ability to change or reprogram a belief system depends on the individual's willingness to challenge their existing beliefs and open themselves up to new ideas. It also requires understanding why certain beliefs exist in the first place, and examining if they still serve a purpose in one's life. In addition, it may involve seeking out different perspectives from people with varied backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
Ultimately, changing or reprogramming one’s belief system requires commitment and effort on the part of the individual involved. It is not something that can be done overnight but rather requires patience and dedication to see results.
It would be remiss of me not to take this opportunity to speak briefly of the benefits of using hypnosis to assist change in particular negative beliefs that are having a detrimental affect on a person’s life.
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that can be used to help people make positive changes in their lives. It can help individuals break free from negative beliefs and thought patterns that are holding them back and replace them with more positive ones. Hypnosis can be used to provide positive suggestions to the subconscious mind, allowing individuals to change their belief systems and adopt healthier behaviours. By utilizing hypnotherapy, individuals can create a new reality for themselves in which they can achieve their goals, no matter how big or small. Through hypnosis, individuals can gain a better understanding of themselves and their capabilities, allowing them to move forward with confidence.
Summary
My idea to write this article was fuelled by someone who had bought and suggested purchasing and wearing a particular Feng shui bracelet that bought an abundance of wealth, health, and happiness.
